The 8x57 and 7.92x57 cartridges are nearly identical; the only difference for the keychain is in the shape of the used bullet, whereas the 7.62x57 has a more pointed type of FMJ military original bullet.

Cartridge Development:
The 7.92x57 JS cartridge, also known as 8mm Mauser, is a rifle cartridge with a rimless, bottlenecked casing. It was introduced in Imperial Germany in 1905 and was used in both World Wars. In its time, the 7.92 × 57mm Mauser cartridge was one of the most popular military cartridges in the world. In the 21st century, it remains popular and is still produced in Europe and the United States in a civilian version under the names 8x57JS or 8x57 IS. This cartridge was designed for the German army to increase the range over the previous M 88 cartridge. The Czechoslovak army stopped using it in the fifties, and it was most extensively used by Yugoslavia, with commonly found cartridges from 1978-1989. Machine guns using this cartridge were recently seen in current footage from conflicts in Syria.
Cartridge Composition and Manufacture:
Loaded for rifles and machine guns with brass casings and FMJ bullets, occasionally produced with steel lacquered casings towards the end of the war and in the fifties. In the civilian sector, this cartridge is popular among shooters and hunters in the civilian variant 8x57, produced by all major ammunition manufacturers with almost all available bullet types.

The keychain loop is lathe-turned from brass and firmly pressed into the base of the casing at the primer position, ensuring waterproofness and distinguishing it from most competing products. Brass parts can be polished with a brass surface treatment product like Sidol.
