About the 7x57 Mauser Cartridge

Cartridge Development:

The 7x57 Mauser was originally a military cartridge, designed by Paul Mauser in 1892 for his Model 92 rifle. The first customer was the Spanish army, which used it for over 50 years. Other users included the Boers during the Boer Wars. Mauser rifles in 7x57 calibre remained standard military rifles for many years until the advent of semi-automatic and automatic rifles during and after World War II, leading to the decline of this calibre as a military cartridge. Besides its excellent military reputation, 7x57 also gained considerable attention as a sporting and later as a hunting cartridge. Although its significance has declined in favour of more modern calibres, it is still offered by all major ammunition manufacturers.

Cartridge Composition and Manufacture:

Loaded with smokeless powder. Manufactured in a large variety of loads by all major ammunition manufacturers with different types of bullets such as target, hunting, cut-edge, and plastic-tipped. Practically only brass casings are used. FMJ, SPCE, and other hunting bullets are available.

Keychain Construction and Care:

The keychain loop is lathe-turned from brass and firmly pressed into the base of the casing at the primer position, ensuring waterproofness and distinguishing it from most competing products. Brass parts can be polished with a brass surface treatment product like Sidol.
